5 WORLD RECORD BREAKING GOLF COURSES

At the headquarters of Hole19, we thoroughly enjoy a comprehensive compilation of world records, and when those records pertain to the sport of golf, well, things truly don’t get any better for us.

Can you name the golf courses that are the oldest, the longest, and the highest in the world at the present time? These are the very same questions that we have been asking ourselves, and we believe that we have discovered the answers. Be sure to check them out, and if you are aware of any additional record breakers, please let us know.

HIGHEST GOLF COURSE – YAK GOLF COURSE

YAK GOLF COURSE

According to the Guinness World Records, the Yak Golf Course in Kupup, East Sikkim, India is the golf course that has the designation of being the highest altitude golf course on the planet. This course is 6,025 yards in length and is a component of a military base that is located high in the Indian Himalayas. It is situated at an elevation of 13,025 feet above sea level.

As one might anticipate for a golf course located at such a high altitude, the availability of the course for a knock is highly dependant on the weather.

According to World Golf, the highest golf course in the world is not the military installation facilities in India but rather the La Paz Golf Club in Bolivia. This is just to add a little bit of uncertainty to the situation.

Located in the heart of a landscape that has been degraded, this verdant oasis has been around for more than a century. It reaches a height that is approximately 2,330 feet lower than its Himalayan competitor due to the fact that its highest point is 10,695 feet above sea level.

OLDEST GOLF COURSE – ST ANDREWS LINKS

ST ANDREWS LINKS

The Old Course at St. Andrews Links in Scotland is officially the oldest golf course in the world. This is one of the more well-known golf courses that holds the record for the best golf course in the world.

The very earliest recorded record of golf is associated with this ancient golf course, which is today well recognised and affectionately referred to as the “home of golf” in the spirit of the game.

Hole19ers are well aware that St. Andrews is not only the oldest golf course in the world, but it is also considered to be among the top golf courses in the world. It is a venue that the top golfers in the world love to visit more than any other of its kind, and it is a fixture on the schedule for the Open Championship.

HOTTEST GOLF COURSE – FURNACE CREEK GOLF COURSE

FURNACE CREEK GOLF COURSE

This one might require some educated conjecture on our part, but considering that the region of Furnace Creek in Inyo County, California is the location of the highest temperature that has ever been consistently recorded anywhere in the world, we are going to go ahead and make the bold assertion that Furnace Creek Golf Course is the hottest place on the entire planet.

Furnace Creek Golf Course was formerly known as Death Valley Golf Course. It is located 214 feet (65 metres) below sea level, and during the summer months, when temperatures can reach above 125 degrees Fahrenheit (52 degrees Celsius), part of the accommodations are closed, but the golf course continues to be open.

During the year 2011, the resort went to the extent of establishing a competition that was known as the Heatstroke Open. To everyone’s surprise, it attracted a total of forty-eight competitors.

LOWEST GOLF COURSE – FURNACE CREEK GOLF COURSE

FURNACE CREEK GOLF COURSE

In addition to being awarded the title of “hottest golf course on Earth,” Furnace Creek is also officially recognised as the course with the lowest elevation. This is just one of the many records that Furnace Creek continues to break.

It is located 214 feet (65 metres) below sea level, as was said before, and the individuals who work at Guinness World Records have officially awarded it the title of record holder. The way the golf ball moves is influenced by a larger force of gravity and a higher barometric pressure. This is because the golf ball does not have any elevation along its path.

LONGEST GOLF COURSE – JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN

JADE DRAGON SNOW MOUNTAIN

There is a possibility that this one could be contested; however, if we were to consider the longest golf course in terms of yardage when playing from the tips, then the official holder of the world record would be Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which is located in Lijiang within the Chinese province of Tibet.

The actual length of the course is 8,548 yards, while the longest hole is a par-5 that is exactly 711 yards in length. There are also a number of steep and challenging ski slopes across the entire resort, which are definitely not for anyone who are easily intimidated.

In addition, the Nullarbor Links in Australia is unique due to the fact that its 18 holes are dispersed across a massive distance of 1,875 kilometres (yes, that is kilometres). Along the Eyre Highway, which runs from Western Australia to South Australia, each hole is located in a location that is distinct from the others.
